HR 874/S 428 Freedom to Travel to Cuba

Summary: In April 2009, President Obama lifeted long standing restrictions on travel to Cuba for Cuban-Americans. However, restrictions remain in place for all other Americans. Cuba is currently the only country in the world that the United States government stops its citizens from traveling to. The travel ban is a part of the larger embargo policy that the US has held toward Cuba for over 60 years. For the last 18 years, such policies have been condemned by the UN and international human rights organizations, such as Amnesty International. HR 874 would begin to ease relations between the US and Cuba while restoring the rights of all US citizens to travel where they choose.
