Monday June 9th

Chicago Temple 77 W. Washington Street, Chicago
Cost of the Luncheon: $25

Bishop Poma is an indigenous leader in Bolivia and a member of the Aymara nation. At a recent World Council of Churches event, he said "the world must listen to the clamor of excluded people." The bishop also demanded "guarantees for the social movements and their leaders, because there is fear for the lives of these social actors who defend the poorest."
Bolivia is one of the poorest countries in Latin America despite its extensive natural resources, he explained. But "the interests of transnational companies" represent "the death of thousand-year-old Indigenous peoples such as the Aymaras." In his remarks, Bishop Poma called the church to "listen to the emerging clamor of social and economic injustice. We are sure that our lives are not condemned to failure and destruction."
Come meet this extraordinary faith leader at the luncheon on Monday June 9th
