2009 May - GUATEMALA - Loyola University Chicago Alternative Break Immersion
In May 2009 CRLN partnered with Loyola University Campus Ministry on their Alternative Break Immersion experience in Guatemala. The group of nine students, Patrick Eccles from LUC Campus Ministry, and Erica Spilde of CRLN spent several days in San Lucas Toliman, Guatemala City, and Antigua getting to know the country's history, current social and political issues, people, culture, and natural beauty. As part of a long-standing partnership with La Parroquia de San Lucas Toliman, the group spent several days collaborating on projects of the mission, such as fair trade coffee and reforestation initiatives. The second part of the trip was filled with meetings with various human rights organizations based out of Guatemala City where the group learned more about the constant pursuit of justice and truth, and struggles against impunity.
