Intentional reflection time will focus on appropriate and caring ways to accompany a congregation confronting this timely issue.

Training on Video Production and Immigration for People of Faith

Start: 11/09/2010 - 10:00am

End: 11/09/2010 - 6:00pm

CALLING PEOPLE OF FAITH & SERVICE PROVIDERS STANDING IN SOLIDARITY WITH IMMIGRANTS!

Join the national Interfaith Immigration Coalition, Church World Service and Auburn Media for a One-Day Training on Video Production

Learn how to make short, effective videos to share your stories & highlight your service programs, community outreach, etc.

Tuesday, November 9, 2010 Chicago, IL

As part of each training, a film crew will provide film and media training to people of faith, service providers, and activists working to make their communities more welcoming and advocating for immigration reform.

Auburn Media and Church World Service staff will facilitate group discussions on how to tailor the New Year's Resolution Campaign for Immigration Reform (see below for more information) for your local community, and how to effectively share your stories of solidarity, action and welcome with others across the country.

Participants will tell their stories and highlight what their communities are doing - ESL classes, immigration legal clinics, congregation accompaniment programs, prayer vigils, community education, etc. - using the most effective messaging techniques; learn about best filming practices; discuss the current political dynamics of immigration reform, and brainstorm how their communities can be involved in the upcoming New Year's Resolution Campaign for Immigration Reform.

In addition to providing hands-on instruction to training participants, we hope to collect powerful stories of how congregations, service providers, and community members are building more welcoming communities and advocating for immigration reform.

Church World Service will assist with travel costs both for local participants and a limited number of out-of-state participants interested in sharing their stories and building their communities' capacity to utilize video for outreach, education, community building and advocacy work.

Please contact Yvette Schock (yschock@churchworldservice.org) to register or request travel scholarships.
Space is limited.

Draft agenda:

10am Introductions, overview of New Year's Resolution Campaign 11am Political timeline, opportunities for immigration reform
“This is an extraordinary book about the courageous journeys of people crossing the U.S.–Mexico border—and about U.S. citizens who are erasing those borders with acts of mercy and defiance . . . a page turner.”

“Peel back phrases like illegal alien and undocumented worker and you’ll find the voices heard in this book, poor people coming north to survive. And the local people who try to help them. Learn the tragedy that is the border and listen to the tales of our fellow human beings as they are hunted on American ground.”
