From June 26-July 4th twelve people, including CRLN Program Director Gary Cozette and CRLN Board member Sidney Hollander, traveled with the La Voz de los de Abajo delegation to Honduras for the mobilizations protesting one year of the military coup and celebrating the birth of the new resistance movement in Honduras. The delegation traveled throughout the country observing and interviewing political prisoners, campesinos, journalists, human rights and indigenous leaders, and members and leaders from the National Front of Popular Resistance. Join us for our report back, which will include analysis and commentary from members of the delegation, video, photos and plenty of discussion. Auburn Media and Church World Service staff will facilitate group discussions on how to tailor the New Year's Resolution Campaign for Immigration Reform (see below for more information) for your local community, and how to effectively share your stories of solidarity, action and welcome with others across the country. Participants will tell their stories and highlight what their communities are doing - ESL classes, immigration legal clinics, congregation accompaniment programs, prayer vigils, community education, etc. - using the most effective messaging techniques; learn about best filming practices; discuss the current political dynamics of immigration reform, and brainstorm how their communities can be involved in the upcoming New Year's Resolution Campaign for Immigration Reform. In addition to providing hands-on instruction to training participants, we hope to collect powerful stories of how congregations, service providers, and community members are building more welcoming communities and advocating for immigration reform. Church World Service will assist with travel costs both for local participants and a limited number of out-of-state participants interested in sharing their stories and building their communities' capacity to utilize video for outreach, education, community building and advocacy work.
