March 10 - Rally and March to Defend Civil Liberties 2noon at Daley Plaza, 50 W. Washington Street
In addition to the immigrant youth-led Coming Out of the Shadows March and Rally
on March 10th, YOU are invited to stand in solidarity with the Muslim
community as a unified voice calling on President Obama, the Department
of Justice, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the City of Chicago
to Respect Civil Liberties. For more information visit: http://www.ciogc.org
March 10th is the 6th anniversary of the massive march for immigrant rights that launched the national movement. Now those mostly Latino communities are facing up to 400,000 deportations annually. Arab and Muslim communities are targeted by government policies driven by the so-called “war on terror.” Repression of First Amendment freedoms of speech and assembly have seen 6000 arrests of Occupy Wall Street protesters, and anti-war and international solidarity activists such as Carlos Montes are being criminalized.
Join us. Add your voice. Tell President Obama, the Department of Justice, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the City of Chicago that we know our rights and we will defend them.
No to Indefinite Detention without a Trial
- Stop Islamophobia
Defend Immigrant Rights
- End Deportations
Stop FBI Repression of Anti War Activists

Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago
Council on American Islamic Relations

On the 6th anniversary of the mass immigrant rights marches in Chicago, Illinois will be launching our National Coming Out of the Shadows week events with a coming out rally at Daily Plaza. As in the last two years, undocumented immigrants will take the stage and talk about their undocumented status publicly. This year we continue to say we are undocumented, unafraid, and unapologetic, that we have the right to be here, exist here, and define ourselves.

GRANITO: HOW TO NAIL A DICTATOR
Sometimes a film makes history; it doesn't just document it. So it is with GRANITO: HOW TO NAIL A DICTATOR, the astonishing new film by Pamela Yates. Part political thriller, part memoir, Yates transports us back in time to 1982 and Guatemala's genocide against the Mayan people, a story she documented at the time with her film When the Mountains Tremble. That film turned out to be the only documentary record of the Guatemalan civil war.
Fast-forward 28 years later and the earlier film
becomes evidence in an international war-crimes case against the former commander of the army, while reuniting Yates with Rigoberta Menchú, now a Nobel laureate, and others who continue to contribute their granito (tiny grain of sand) in a continuing quest for the truth.

Forced Out: A Teach-In About Immigration and Incarceration
This teach-in provides a starting place for a conversation among individuals and families impacted by "mass detention." It also gives students, activists and allies a chance to make connections across issues that are often seen as separate and even competing. By educating people about the shared logic of the prison and immigration systems, Forced Out will increase the links among affected groups and help to create a more unified voice for policy change across all communities. Working together, everyday people can create a culture of solidarity and demand real changes that improve public safety while strengthening our society for all.

In preparations for the NATO protest, a "Peoples Summit" will convene on Saturday & Sunday, May 12-13, 2012.
Where? At Occupy Chicago Headquarters, 500 W. Cermak, Chicago
Purpose? "To educate our communities about war, austerity, global capitalism, and corporatization in the 21st century, and what it means for the ways we live in this world. Topics can range from the increasing cost of a loaf of bread in Chicago to the 1.4 billion people worldwide living in misery; from the ‘war on terror' and global homeland security industries to increased militarization of domestic policing; from global wage depression and the creation of disposable labor reserves to devastating climate change, destruction of environments, and the privatization of common resources. Within each of these threads (and many more), the power of global economics determines the material state of contemporary world affairs. Major events around the globe in 2011, from Tahrir Square to Zuccotti Park, have instilled a great urgency in us all; we need to understand how the complex conditioning by global processes has given the 99% of the world more in common than we dared to imagine before."
